I’m working on posting a new song here very soon. But I had to get my hands on some sleigh bells, which took quite a bit longer than I would have imagined.

I finally found them in the “box of mystery”. This is a very long story.

aenonfire.com is an online magazine showcasing artists and musicians. When Clint asked if I would like to be featured, of course I said yes. I gave what I thought was a rather incoherent interview via a video chat one night (early morning), which turned into a very neat write up.

Big thanks to aenonfire.

I got some time together and mixed down a new song. I can’t really think of anything to say about it.

I call it killing me. It’s not my most upbeat song I’ll be the first to admit, it’s all part of a bigger picture. What that’s a picture of is anyone’s guess.

Charles and I finished recording the drum tracks for my songs over the weekend. That was 6 in 2 days. 3 in 3 hours on Sunday actually.

If I have one piece of advice to pass on from the experience, it is put a mic underneath your snare. Otherwise it kinda just sounds like a weird tom.

Mixes are comming soon, stay tuned.

Previously I’ve always used programmed drumbeats, which I guess, in hindsight, didn’t really fit with the feel of my songs.

When I got a drum kit I resolved to replace the existing tracks with a real acoustic drum track. So Charles is coming over on the weekend to record some more. We’ve pooled our collection of microphones and drums and have managed to come up with a pretty good sounding kit.

He’s already recorded four songs. I’m going to put one up to listen to as soon as I have a mix I’m happy with.

They sound really good though, better than drums recorded at home.

Welcome to jessestephens.com

This site has been a long time in the making. Mainly finding time and motivation to get it all set up. But here it is, finished. I say finished … what I really mean is “finishedish” I plan to tweak and ad features as time goes on and to fix all the little mistakes that I’m not noticing at the moment.

I’ll be posting songs here for everyone to listen to and trying to blog about the (long) process of me recording music.

Hopefully it works out.
